A letter from a teacher to her class
Hey Akomanga Wha,
Thanks so much for a great term. I appreciate your effort and your attitude towards learning. You are developing some great life skills, adding tools, values, attitudes and positive experiences to your kete. I appreciate your sense of humour and look forward to term 2 with you. Remember it is up to you to stay focused, to manage your time, and to always do the absolute best you can.
Let's finish the term on a high with your Prezi presentations:)

Blue Fire
Ngaio, Rata, Rimu and Nikau, all hoping to win. I was keen to get house points. Everyone was.
Rata, the Red house, was like a fire truck, trying to desperately put the blue fire out, with no success.
Rimu, the Green house, thought they had a chance to win, but got defeated very quickly.
It looked like Ngaio had the most house points, but would they win the battle?

RED LIKE A FIRE TRUCK!!!
Numb toes gripping the edge of the arena everybody is ready, nervously awaiting the gun, the chants of the four supporting houses echo through the stadium, BANG! ....Who will win?
And all the four houses dive into the ruthless pool as if their lives depend on it! Josiah, from Rata, is darting through the transparent water enilating every opponent in his path. He is in the lead. He's ripping through the water like a tidal wave he reaches out with both hands to claim Rata's victory...
Ngaio's flabbergasted faces stare in shock as it's not them that have won this race, it's Rata. And... Rata has won the 2013 Year 7 Freestyle Final! It's dead quiet with Ngaio - so quiet you could hear a pin drop - but over with Rata it's wild, hats hovering around people screaming out chants. One small swim for Rata, one massive swim for Rata kind!

New Season
On Saturday my football team played the Panthers, a girls team! I was feeling really pumped, it was the start of the new season. The Panthers are really skillful but it would be embarrassing if we lost. Here is what happened,...
Wee arrive at the pitch and do a long hard warm up. The game starts, they kick off, we are ready for anything. They start really well cutting through our defence like knifes through soft butter and coming close to scoring a few times. We start to get into the rhythm of things, playing good quick football and nice passes.
The first goal, a bottom right corner grubber, sneaks past the goalie. A great finishing shot. Suddenly the goals come tumbling in. At half time the score is 8-1. We're doing really well and so are they.
Final score. 12 -2 to us.

Trolley Derby
TROLLEY DERBY
On Saturday I went to the Trolley Derby where I met up with Albie, Sam, Seth, Ronan and Darcy. When we first arrived we saw the Nelson Intermediate trolley. It was coming in 4th place because it isn't a very good design, it's too big and not very aerodynamic. My favourite part about the trolley derby is watching the crashes. The best crash... a speedy trolley in the lead starts to wobble and the flips out of control. It starts rolling side over side down the hill, slows down and gets back on its wheels only to crash into another trolley that was a long way behind. Finally it comes to a standstill crashing into the hay bails on the side of the track.

Summer Tournament
Last Friday NIS competed in the annual Summer tournament. NIS did exceptionally well coming first in volleyball, softball, kiwi tag, touch and mountain biking. Everyone had a great time including the supporters. I know everyone is already looking forward to the Winter tournament.
Inquiry
In Room 4 we have been learning about another child's culture. First we had to pick a culture (people choose all sorts of cultures including the Indian culture, South African culture, the Norwegian culture and even the Egyptian culture). After we picked our culture we researched all sorts of information we used some cognitive organisers to record our information into. Then we made a Prezi slideshow to present our work.
Our classroom
We figured that you haven't really seen what out class looks like so here are some pictures of our amazing classroom at work!
Maths in Akomanga Wha
This week room 4 have been learning about 24 hour time and how to read it. We have completed many work sheets and word problems so now we clearly understand how to read 24 hour time.
